Jakarta Annual Inflation Cooled Slightly In The End of 2023

Abstract

  • In December 2023, year on year (y-on-y) inflation in DKI Jakarta was recorded at 2.28 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 114.67. Meanwhile, nationally, the highest inflation occurred in Sumenep at 5.08 percent with a CPI of 120.82 and the lowest occurred in Bandung at 0.63 percent with a CPI of 116.16. 
  • Y-on-y inflation occurred due to the prices increase as indicated by an increase in the price index for most expenditure category, namely: the food, beverages and tobacco category by 6.40 percent; housing, water, electricity and household fuels category at 0.34 percent; furniture, furnishings and household equipment, and operation category at 2.33 percent; health category at 1.56 percent; transport category at 1.42 percent; information, communication and financial services category at 0.41 percent; recreation, sports and culture category at 0.91 percent; education category at 1.69 percent; food and beverages/restaurant provision category at 1.84 percent; and the personal care and other services category at 2.84 percent. Meanwhile, the expenditure category that experienced a decline in the price index were: the clothing and footwear category by 1.43 percent.
  • The month to month (m-to-m) inflation rate in December 2023 was 0.50 percent and the year to date (y-to-d) inflation rate in December 2023 was 2.28 percent.
  • The energy component in December 2023 experienced deflation as the following: y-on-y deflation was 0.36 percent, m-to-m deflation was 0.05 percent, and y-to-d deflation was 0.36 percent. On the other hand, the foodstuff components experienced inflation, namely: y-on-y inflation of 6.91 percent, m-to-m inflation of 1.79 percent, and y-to-d inflation of 6.91 percent.
