Jakarta Annual Inflation Speeds Up in August 2023, Albeit Only Slightly

Abstract

Amid the issue of a potential food crisis, year-on-year (yoy) inflation in DKI Jakarta in August 2023 was observed to rise slightly.

This was the second increase of inflation in 2023, after six straight months of declines. Slightly different from the previous increase

in inflation in January 2023 which was triggered by increases in the prices of petrol, house contracts and household fuels, the increase in inflation this month was driven more by increases in the prices of petrol, rice and house contracts,

Year-on-year (yoy) inflation in DKI Jakarta in August 2023 was recorded at 2.93 percent, 0.12 percentage points higher compared to a month earlier. The increase in prices of a number of commodities in the transport category as well as the food, beverages and tobacco category was the main trigger for inflation this month.
