Imports Rise Slightly Trend of Imports Growth Continues

Abstract

The increasingly controlled Covid-19 pandemic has encouraged economic recovery and increased community activities. This boosts an increase in domestic demand. It can be seen from the growth imports increased by 2.1 percent compared to the same period the previous year. Furthermore, cumulative imports (c-to-c) from January to April 2022, which increased by 25.5 percent. Meanwhile, when compared to the previous month, Jakarta’s imports in April 2022 decreased by 20.9 percent. The decline in imports in this period was driven by the decline in the value of imports in the non-oil and gas sector by 21.7 percent. In the other hand, imports of oil and gas sector increase by 14.6 percent. Based on the classification of the use of imported goods (BEC), imports of capital goods increased by 7.5 percent compared to April 2021 (year-on-year). In addition, imports of raw and auxiliary materials increased by 2.3 percent. The growth in both classifications indicated a positive signal for economic movement from the real sector, including industry and construction. Meanwhile, imports of consumer goods decreased by 5.6 percent.
