The Jakarta’s Poverty Rate Increase Slightly

Release Date : July 15, 2022
File Size : 4.64 MB

Abstract

The poverty rate of Jakarta on March 2022 reached 4.69 percent. This figure increased slightly by 0.02 percentage points compared to  September 2021, but decreased by 0.03 percentage points compared to March 2021. It was partly due to the decrease in purchasing power of people, who are still affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and also by the increase in the price of goods and services.
The increase in new cases of Covid-19 due to the Omicron variant during March 2022 had an impact on the imposition of restrictions on several economic activities that had previously begun to recover gradually. The economy has start to improve but people’s purchasing power has not fully recovered. During September 2021 – March 2022, Jakarta’s economy grew 4.42 percent but inflation was also recorded quite high at the level of 1.78 percent. At the same time, the disbursement of various types of social assistance from both the Central Government and the Provincial Government that can help maintain purchasing power has not been optimally distributed. This has an impact on the level of consumption of  the poor.
