At the end of the first semester of 2022, inflation in Jakarta rose again. This can be seen from the foodstuffs prices that have crept up due to the depletion of supply in the market. In addition, a number of non-food commodities prices increased as well, causing Jakarta inflation rate to rise significantly.
Throughout June 2022, Jakarta inflation was recorded at 0.32 percent, five times higher than the previous month. The rising prices of red chilies, cayenne peppers, and shallots was the main triggers for inflation this time. The increase in air transport ticket prices also contributed significantly to Jakarta inflation.
The year to date inflation rate until mid- 2022 reached 1.94 percent. Increased community activity, economic recovery, and global economic conditions caused the inflation rate accelerated far above last year’s.
However, compared to other cities in Indonesia, Jakarta inflation was relatively low. Jakarta was ranked 78th out of 85 cities experiencing inflation. Likewise, compared to satellite cities, Jakarta inflation was the lowest.
