Year-on-year Imports Performance Increases Slightly Despite Cumulative Imports Decrease

Abstract

Jakarta’s economic recovery continues to show positive movement. Amidst the threat of a global recession, domestic economic activity continues, likewise with Jakarta’s imports which showed positive performance in this period.

Jakarta’s import value in February 2023 was recorded at US$ 5,549.92 million. This figure rose 0.18 percent compared to February 2022. This increase was triggered by an increase in imports in the oil and gas sector by 67.43 percent. In addition, the year-on-year increase was triggered by increased imports of several main commodities.

On a month-to-month basis, Jakarta’s imports decreased by 12.04 percent. This decline was triggered by a decrease in all groups in the classification of the use of imported goods (BEC). The group of imports of capital goods fell by 12.79 percent, followed by a decline in the import of intermediate goods. In addition, imports of consumer goods also decreased by 10.06 percent. The import performance in this period was driven by declining imports from several main countries, such as imports from China which fell by 31.42 percent, followed by the United States, which fell by 21.60 percent. This decline was due to global uncertainty and high inflation in the country.
