Abstract

The continuous economic recovery from the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic improved economic activity in Jakarta. This improvement increased domestic demand, affecting the performance of Jakarta’s imports. The cumulative value of Jakarta’s imports (c-to-c) in January-June 2022 increased by 27.7 percent compared to the same period in the previous year.
In line with the cumulative import value of Jakarta, imports in June 2022 rose by 16.9 percent compared to the previous month. Rising exports in all sectors triggered the increase in imports. The oil and gas and nonoil and gas sectors increased by 90.9 percent and 15.5 percent, respectively, compared to May 2022.
Furthermore, year-on-year imports of Jakarta increased by 20.7 percent. Based on the classification of the use of imported goods (BEC), all groups experienced an increase compared to the same month in the previous year, indicating a continued economic improvement in Jakarta from last year. Imports of raw/auxiliary materials increased by 24.6 percent, followed by increased imports of capital goods by 15.6 percent, and imports of consumer goods increased by 9.6 percent.
