Second Year of Pandemic, Jakarta’s Economic Grows Positively

Jakarta showed a relatively strong economic recovery in 2021 despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, especially the delta variant. Jakarta’s economic recovery was driven by a rise in public activities and a strengthening of global economic performance. Aside from that, the vaccination program and the COVID-19 Handling and National Economic Recovery Program also supported the economic recovery. In 2021, Jakarta’s economy grew by 3.56 percent after a pandemic-driven contraction at 2.39 percent in the preceding year. On the supply side, a positive performance came from Transportation and Storage, Manufacturing, and Accommodation and Food Service Activities. Meanwhile, Electricity and Gas and Other Services Activities still went through a contraction. On the expenditure side, both domestic and global aggregate demand increased. The highest rise occurred in Government Final Consumption Expenditure (GFCE), Household Final Consumption Expenditure (HFCE), Exports, and Imports.
